IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001
CHARLESTON,
S.C. -- Visitors might not be able to walk and relax in the Philip
Simmons Children's Garden yet, but they can get a sneak preview
of all its offerings on a new Web site.
"We
wanted to provide an interactive, new way that people could learn
about the Garden and follow the project as it's built," said
the Dallas H. Wilson Jr., ThD, president of Elpis, Inc. "This
new Web site should be fun for kids and adults."
The
Garden, a project of Elpis Inc. (Agape Ministries of Charleston,
is located at the corner of Blake and East Bay streets at the entrance
of the Josiah Smith Tennant House. It is expected to be open to
the public in December.
The
new Web site (http://www.simmonschildrensgarden.com), designed by
The Brack Group of Charleston, features garden designs, history
and more.
"We
hope you can use the new site to get a feel of the special character
of the Garden," said Andy Brack, principal of The Brack Group
(http://www.brack.net), a communications and strategy firm that
donated the Web site design.
Named
for master blacksmith Philip Simmons, the Garden will feature a
sculpture of Mr. Simmons, a water wall in honor of the late Thelma
"T.C." Drayton and a life-size sculptured depiction of
Jesus washing the feet of a child. It also will have an 8-foot wrought-iron
gate designed by Mr. Simmons. A wrought-iron fence will enclose
the garden.
