The Philip Simmons Children's Garden was unveiled in December 2001 to commemorate the artistic skill and social contributions of its world-renowned namesake, master craftsman Philip Simmons. The Garden is located in front of the architecturally-prized Josiah Smith Tennent House at the corner of Blake and East Bay streets in Charleston, S.C.'s Eastside neighborhood.

The Garden, a project of Agape Ministries of Charleston, is a place where children learn about nature and use as a haven to witness the power of community revitalization. Among the Garden's features:

  • An 8-foot and four(4) 4-foot wide wrought-iron gates designed by Mr. Simmons.

  • A life-sized sculpture of Mr. Simmons by Charleston sculptor Tom Durham.

  • A water wall in honor of the late Eastside community leader Thelma "T.C." Drayton.

  • A life-sized sculptured depiction of Jesus washing the feet of a child.
